Day 11: Things

11 Things What are 11 things your life doesn’t need in 2011? How will you go about eliminating them? How will getting rid of these 11 things change your life? (Author: Sam Davidson)

  1. DVR: Ok, so I really don't want to get rid of my DVR, but I seriously need to cut back on the shows I tape. Because once I tape it, I feel obligated to watch it. Will free up time for other things.
  2. Clothes: I have a real issue with my clothes. I often just buy clothes because they fit and are comfortable. Problem is that I don't feel like I can wear those types of clothes to work. So, I need to clean out my wardrobe and get a better stock of some good staples. This will help solve my issue of not having anything to wear in the morning & make me feel more confident at work.
  3. Canned Goods: Seriously, how many cans of peas does a family of 2 need! I need to be better about donating my extra "good deals."
  4. Lists: I love my lists, this isn't a surprise to anyone. Problem is that I often find myself procrastinating something just because I haven't created a list for it yet. Not a good thing!
  5. Taking care of others instead of myself: I'm the worst at over commiting myself to help others out. I often find that I have only one or two nights a week to just be at home without any commitments. While I like helping others, I also need to take more time for me and my son. We should always come first.
  6. Stress: Ok, not sure how to get rid of this exactly, but I really want to work on it. Stress causes me to sleep less and eat more. Talk about a heart attack waiting to happen!!
  7. Socks: Kind of a funny one, but I really need to purge my sock drawer this year. I have socks in there that I would never wear. And, way too many pairs of trouser socks with holes or runs in them. Just like with the clothes, I need some decent socks.
  8. Multitasking: I have a real issue of just sitting still and not doing something. For example, when I'm watching TV, I have to be clipping coupons or organizing my mail. Or, when I'm on the phone, I have to empty the dishwasher. I know I'm missing out on some good things as I'm not paying 100% attention to what is going on around me.
  9. Junk: I have a whole closet in my basement that is full of just junk - empty boxes, cords to stuff I don't know or own anymore, crates of stuff I moved into this house 3 years ago...Getting rid of the stuff will help earn money for vacation, make some space for some true organization & making me feel less overwhelmed when I walk down there.
  10. Coffee: I love coffee, anytime of the day. And, I can even be happy with some plain black coffee. Problem is that I drink it all day. Probably why I'm still on the computer at 10:30 pm. I need to cut back. For my health and sanity. Plus, I hate coffee breath and I know I'm not getting enough water!
  11. Anger: this past year has made me really angry. I've felt cheated and upset with what cards my family was dealt. But, we are alive, healthy and together. So, why am I still holding on to that anger? I need to let that go right away. A new year is the perfect time to focus on the positive, happy parts of my life. I'm thankful for my life and am excited to celebrate it in 2011~

  1. We have so many in common it is funny! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that stresses out with all the junk around. It actually gives me stress when our counter is filled with papers! And your DVR item is like my google reader problem. :) I feel obligated to read! I definitely agree with you on number 5. In my opinion, your unfailing desire to help others is one of the many beautiful things about you. Love ya!!
