Monday

Yesterday completely got away from me and I never did get a good post written. So, today I am starting fresh. First, let me share a very stupid decision that I made. I wrote earlier about connecting Caleb with Sylvan to get him help with his Algebra. Boy, was I ever taken for a ride! And, unfortunately, I am out $95 because of it. I was told that I could tailor his tutoring schedule for what worked for us and I would pay by the hour. So, I willingly signed him up for his testing tonight. When we got there, I found out that they do not offer tutoring at all - it is actually classroom instruction. And, they could not guarantee that the kids in his "class" would even be his age or even learning the same subjects. Then, they told me that they would only sign kids up who can agree to a minimum of 4 hours a week! Seriously - at $47 per hour??? Who in the world are they kidding! Then, they handed me a credit application to qualify for a "loan" at 10% interest to pay for this service. What a joke! And, it makes me so sad to know that a business has been operating like this.

It was very upsetting to me because I knew that I could not afford this for Caleb. I tried to get him the best help I could and I could not afford it, very demeaning as a parent. So, I'm not sure where I am going to go from here. I mean, I am an educated teacher, so why cannot I provide him with the skills he needs? In fact, I probably have more education that a lot of the instructors at Sylvan. So, instead of devoting my $, I might have to suck it up and devote my time. If I can figure out what he is trying to learn, then I might be able to teach him myself. Something to think on...

Positives about today
  1. I learned a valuable lesson about consumerism
  2. The Big Bang Theory - made me laugh when I really needed it
  3. I got a friend request on Facebook from Jacob, my favorite Apples to Apples gamer

Healthy Living Update: Ok, I have to be honest & write that I did absolutely nothing healthy yesterday. Very embarrassing and probably why I didn't post. But, today, I made healthy food choices and took Cena for a 15 minute walk. I tried to get up early to work out on the glider, but just couldn't bring myself to crawl out of bed. I'm going to try again tomorrow.
