It’s Good to be Young

I was going to start off this post by making fun of my older sister because it’s her birthday. I decided today, of all days, was the day to be nice to her!

Happy Birthday, Kelly! Can you believe you are already 25? My how time flies. I have to protect your age now since I entered that bracket last year. Us younguns need to stick together.

What do I say to my older sister? Well, I could tell you some of the crazy memories I have of you and I fighting when we were younger. But, that would be drudging up old hurt feelings. And, we don’t do that in our family, do we? I could spend some time lamenting the way you abandoned me when you went to college 2 years before me. But, then I might have to share some of our secrets of you sneaking me into a dorm party when I came visit. And, I really don’t think mom could handle that discussion. Plus, we now have to consider that your daughter will be that same age soon. Yikes!

Instead, I’ll spend some time thanking you for being such a great friend. I love that we have gotten closer as we have aged. I really don’t know what I would do at times without having you on speed dial (or speed text!). You have been there to help me celebrate the triumphs of my life and to sob over the bottomless pits of craziness that my life has been at times.

I enjoy our talks a lot. But, more importantly, I enjoy the craziness that ensues when we get together. How many times have we spent giggling over the most insane things? It makes my side hurt just thinking about it. Who can forget The Gambler when we were young. Or, better yet, the hemorrhoid cartoon character that you, Caleb, Faith & me envisioned on one of our long car rides? Was that Harry the Hemorrhoid?

I love that we have been able to raise our kids together. What more can a person want in having someone as close as my very own sister to call when I’m having mommy issues? We joke about this, but I know it is true. You are actually that other parent to my son. I am lucky to have that, as is he!

So, thank you for being such a wonderful sister. I won’t say anything about you being the best sister – there’s a young one with big ears listening who might get jealous. I think the 3 of us sisters are way better than 2 anyway. Wonder Triplets Power Activate!

Hope you have a great birthday. You deserve it! Even if you do have a sister that posts the following picture of you online for the whole world to see :)!!!
