Day 27: Ordinary Joy

December 27 – Ordinary Joy Our most profound joy is often experienced during ordinary moments. What was one of your most joyful ordinary moments this year? (Author: Brené Brown)

I have come to realize that my time with my son is even more important than I originally thought. We've always been very close. As a single mom, we spent a ton of time together and I believe we know each other very well. This past year, with all of his time spent away from home when he was in JDC, those ordinary moments became even more important.

A recent ordinary moment came just a couple of weeks ago right after a very big snow storm. Caleb was hired by our older neighbor, Nellie, to shovel her driveway and sidewalk. After the many of inches of snow quit falling, Caleb and I set out to shovel our driveway and hers. It took a very long time. While working together on Nellie's driveway, we got into a good rhythm, which allowed for some great conversation. I didn't want it to end. Here we were going back and forth shoveling snow and talking about the little things going on in our lives. Then, Caleb topped it all off. When my back was turned, he hit me with a snow ball. I was reminded my lovely, funny, absolutely wonderful little boy was still there.
