September 11th

It has been exactly one month since my last post. How fitting that I have the sense to write again on this particular day. I read a wonderful post from my sister this morning and she inspired me.

I believe that I have always been proud to be an American, although I don't know that I ever actually put it into words until September 11th. I am so proud that our country came together the way it did when the terrorists were only trying to pull us apart. I love that our country has continued to recognize this awful day in history by reminding ourselves just what it means to be an American. I am also so thankful for the men and women who continue to battle and give their lives for us to have the right to be an American.

My heart also soars when I think of the beautiful way that we continue to recognize the people who sadly lost their lives on this horrific day. Yes, beauty can come out of horror. While I have never been to Ground Zero, I believe that the dedications that they are making to the people who lost their lives is going to be beautiful and amazing.

I am proud that we have a President that continues to support the freedom and rights of all people. Yes, People. Not Christians, or Caucasians, or Women. But People. Humans. Our Maker's (whoever that may be) creations.

I'm not naive. I know that there are  lot of horrors and tragedies still abounding in this beautiful country. I know that there are People who do not have all the freedom and rights that they should. I know that there are families suffering because of their loss of a loved one. I also know that there are Americans who are angry and desire to seek revenge on the people who have caused us this harm.

I have a stronger knowledge of my desire to be a proud American. I'm not looking the other way or pretending the hurt isn't there. I am trying to be me. I am choosing to move forward. I am choosing to make America better with as little power of voice that I have.

Thank you for this beautiful, free nation that we live in. Let us never forget the tragedy of September 11, 2001. Let us forever have this feeling of being proud to be an American and make sure that our voices are heard. Even if voices never reach past our families and closest friends.
