Acumen

acumen - noun - the ability to judge well; keen discernment; insight [from Latin: sharpness, from acuere to sharpen, from acus needle]

I learned a new word and had to share.  I ran across it when editing a section of a grant that one of our fiscal people wrote.  Interestingly enough, I also heard the word on the show Parenthood this week.  Cracks me up when I hear words like this.  Why couldn't they just say that they have good street smarts?
