Easter Memories

I have very fond memories of Easter when Caleb was younger. Easter was a time to spend with family and to enjoy the outdoors for one of the first times of the season.

My first memory of Easter with Caleb was when he was about 3 years old. We went to the Sioux City mall to do some shopping and the Easter Bunny was there. Walking through the mall, Caleb spotted the Easter Bunny walking towards him. He ran to the bunny with arms stretched wide and the bunny picked him and hugged him. It was the sweetest moment. And, this was from a kid that was deathly afraid of Santa that very same year!

Another great memory of Easter is going down to my parent’s house for the Easter egg hunt. Caleb was obsessed with hunting for eggs. So obsessed that there were several years where we hid them a couple of times throughout the day so he could relive the experience.

Often, my grandparents would come to Mom & Dad’s for lunch. I think they enjoyed watching Caleb run around from his sugar high just as much as Caleb enjoyed doing it! Seems like Caleb would always get a new kite to fly in his basket, so this became our routine after we were finished eating the Easter ham. I remember driving Grandma & Grandpa’s pickup out in the field by the house so they could sit on the tail gate and watch Caleb fly his kite. What a sweet memory!

Funny that Easter has lost some of its appeal as Caleb has gotten older. I guess the magic had everything to do with his delight in the day. I was lucky enough to get to spend Easter with my nephew once and it brought back all the happy times. Little kids truly know what it means to be delighted in the most simple of things. Happy Easter everyone & here’s to hoping (or hopping!) your inner child can come out to enjoy the day!
