Hands

I pulled a journal prompt today, having a difficult time coming up with things to write about lately. This one is pretty interesting, but only because I have actually thought about it before. And, I don't know that all people notice this type of thing.

What does someone's hands say about them?

I come from a long line of very hardworkers. So, having clean, soft, well-manicured hands was a bit odd. I tend to be a bit suspicious when I see someone with perfect looking hands. My first thought is that they haven't worked a day in their life. My second thought is wondering how they can possibly have that much time to take care of their hands.

I feel the same way about men and their fingernails. It grosses me out when men have long nails. Seriously, why do they think that is ok? I actually work with a professional with longer nails and I'll never understand it. Again, the same thought process. Men who work with their hands really have a hard time having longer fingernails. First, it's hard to clean under them. Second, they tend to break off.

So, I guess I judge people by the way that their hands look. So, remember that next time you see me. Come with your dry, cracked hands with jacked up fingernails and I'll recognize that you are truly a hard worker!

Now, my hands fit that bill perfectly. Plus, I bite my nails and have really sad looking cuticles. I must work my hands to the bone.  Right??

  1. Men with long nails gross me out!!! I don't know what it is, but it just screams dirty old man to me. :) And not dirty as in dirt under your nails!!

  2. I agree with this post! I really notice people's hands at work, especially the ones I help at the register. There are MANY times I want to go wash up right after they hand me money. You wouldn't believe how many hands I have seen after 20 years!
