Spring Flowers

It is so hard this time of year to not start wishing away the day praying for warmer weather. Recently, I switched my room spray from cinnamon to lilac, and it really made me in the mood for the flowers! Here are my top 5 flowers and why.
5. Tulips – I always love when these start coming up each year. It really makes me feel like the weather is getting somewhere good. I have this really interest patch of tulips on the side of my house. One day, I came home to my neighbor across the street taking pictures of them. She told me the name of the tulips, but I can’t remember. I guess they are something special.

4. Mums – Ok, this isn’t really a spring flower, but I had to include it. I’m obsessed with mums, but have only been successful in getting one of my plants to stay alive in my backyard. But, boy does that plant thrive! I just love the rich, vibrant fall colors, especially in a time when most plants are dying off.

3. Gerbera Daisies – I honestly didn’t have a clue about these until my sister’s wedding. Ever since, they have been a true favorite of mine. When I see them, it reminds me of Heather & Trung’s wedding – such a great memory!

2. Rose bushes – I never cared much about these until I inherited a couple of hardy varieties with my house. I love most that they seem to grow no matter what. And, I’m having to spend little time taking care of them. Although, a true rose connoisseur might find that to be sacrilegious! Either way, I love the bright blossoms growing wildly in my back yard.

1. Lilacs, of course. I think everyone in our family is obsessed with lilacs. There is just something about that smell! Intoxicating! And, when you get lucky enough to have a good year of blossoms, the bushes are almost ethereal with all the color. My mom was obsessed with this flower, so we planted hundreds of them on their acreage when I was little. If I remember correctly, we even had one year where we planted them and it rained so hard that they all slid right down that hill. I can’t recall, but I suppose we must have replanted them. Too bad that lilacs aren’t really good for cutting to bring in the house. But, even if they live for only a few hours, their aroma is well worth it! I have been lucky to have inherited several older bushes with my house, but they no longer produce many blooms. I may need to plant some new ones.
