Creepy or Touching? You be the judge!

Ok, one of my favorite pictures is below. This is my son and my dad at my grandpa’s grave. Now, I really, really like this picture because I think it illustrates a couple of important things. The men in my family are connected in more ways than all of us women could ever understand. For the longest time (pre-Logan), the male gender made up only 37.5% of our family. And, we all know that males typically avoid those “awww” moments whenever a camera is around. So, catching this moment on film meant the world to me. Caleb never got a chance to meet his great-grandpa, but he is named after him. I love it when my dad tells us stories about grandpa. I believe that him and Caleb would have really gotten along well!

So, my problem with this picture, though, is that it also is a bit creepy. Seriously, who (besides my niece :)!) takes pictures in the cemetery? It reminds me of the distant cousin we have who always takes pictures at funerals, but only because she likes to document our family moments together.

My question to all of you. Is this photo creepy or kind of touching? No matter what, it will still remain as one of my favorite photos of Caleb & his grandpa!

  1. Definately touching! It would only be creepy if they were posing by an open casket.

  2. So normally I'd say creepy. But when Trung's grandfather died, I learned pretty quickly that photographs at funerals and gravesites are pretty typical in the Vietnamese culture. I remember being so uncomfortable at the funeral when we had to pose around the casket. So I think that has since opened my mind a bit and helped me understand why you appreciate this photo!
