The Rocket Goes Boom

I thought it would be fun to pick out an old picture and to write a little bit about the memory associated behind it. I used to be good about scrapbooking but have really gotten away from it. I want to start digi scrapbooking and my sister has been really good about getting me resources to get started – but I just haven’t made that step. So, in the meantime, I’m going to use this blog to start documenting some information that I might be able to use later on in the scrapbook.

When Caleb was younger, he always had a fascination with shooting stuff off. Not sure if this is a normal thing, but the very idea of him having the chance to make something go “boom” gave him a thrill. Some of this might come from the fact that he has had a lot of exposure to fireworks from the rest of the family. When I was younger, we operated a fireworks stand. We tried out all different types of fireworks every year and enjoyed every minute of it. So, fro when Caleb was little, lighting stuff off to make it go “boom” was part of our summer ritual.

Caleb’s desire soon grew to trying out rockets. When he was in about 5th grade, there was a school program that was run by the SD Air Guard. The kids got to visit the base and did many science-type of activities. Lighting off a rocket was one of those activities. Caleb was hooked right away. As you can see from the picture, Caleb’s grandpa enjoyed lighting off rockets just as much. The problem was always that it only did it one time and then you had to rebuild it, or buy a new kit. While the rocket obsession might have been strong, mom’s pocket book wasn’t big enough to support his need for the “boom” for very long. Thankfully, we still have the memories.
