I heard on the radio the other day that Crazy Days is supposed to be the weekend of the 15th in Sioux Falls. I always get a little bit of a heart palpation when I think about crazy days. The idea of a good sale really gets my blood pumping. The only problem is that I actually don’t enjoy shopping in Sioux Falls during crazy days. I know, I hear people all the time that they get such good deals. All I ever find is junk that I never need. Or I get all excited by the Bath & Body Works sale and buy too much hand soap. Seriously, how much hand soap can a family of 2 have on hand – and with one of those being a teenage boy who just might never wash his hands. Ok, maybe too much information?
This does remind me that I was going to let everyone know my feelings about that TLC show – Extreme Couponing. Did anyone else see it? I follow a lot of coupon blogs and there was a lot of outrage in the blogosphere about the way that couponers were portrayed. So, I had to watch the show. It reminded me a lot of that show – Hoarders. Where someone keeps everything in their house until their house is just run over with stuff! The difference was that the extreme couponers were fairly organized in their stockpiles. Kind of a necessity I suppose. Part of the high that they get from those crazy shopping trips is seeing the fruits of their labor. So, a clean stockpile can be easily displayed to the world. There was one woman who even yelled at her poor hubby to put stuff on the stockpile shelves so they “look pretty.” Cracked me up! If you haven’ t yet, you really should check out this special. It was really eye opening to a world that I have only dipped my little toe into.
At a minimum, the lesson learned is how important it is to recognized that we are the controllers of our finances – if there is a coupon, you should use it. Why pay full price? Now, the thing to consider is to you really need 400 bottles of hand soap or enough toilet paper to last your family for 120 years? No…hence the reason I won’t be attending crazy days anytime soon.
Side note – even if you don’t believe that someone should be a crazy couponer stockpile hoarder J, you really should know who those people are. We want to make sure to hit their houses first if there is ever a disaster. They will have enough in their house to keep us all going for a LONG time.
