I usually leave the gripping about work to my sister on her blog. Poor thing suffers greatly this time of year with working retail. But, today really takes the cake for me, so I wanted to get it down on paper. Yes, this blog is going to be a great big complaint. Hold on tight...it is going to be a bumpy ride.
The day started off with a conference call that I was asked to schedule. Then when I got in the room, the person that asked me to schedule it asked me what was on the agenda. So, needless to say I wasn't prepared for the call. I assumed the other person was taking care of the agenda. Otherwise - why ask me to schedule the call???? So, I had to wing it and I felt like an idiot. Note to self: Never trust that the other person is going to be prepared. Always do it yourself.
The next meeting was a ridiculous discussion about how to get one of the companies more than 100% of their costs covered by a grant. What? The entire conversation went in circles for 10 minutes. Twice, I told them that what they were asking for didn't make sense. They even appeared to understand that they couldn't make money off federal funds. Yet, there was clearly no trust in the message I was giving them. To get the madness over with, I agreed to do a model with what they were asking. Note to self: Monday morning meetings are clearly never good. No one seems to be in their right mind!
Last meeting was with the lawyer. Need I say more. He spent the 10 minutes talking to me like I was 12. Note to self: Lawyers really are full of themselves.
Thankfully the day ended with me getting to work with a guy that truly believes in collaboration. He was prepared like he said he would be, he didn't ask ridiculous questions and he didn't talk down to me. All was not lost!
