Holiday Movies

I enjoy holiday movies. Especially the classics like White Christmas! My favorite holiday movie to get me started in the right spirit is Love Actually. To be honest, I don't think I ever would have watched this movie if my sister hadn't mentioned it to me one year. Ever since then, it is a must on my list about this time of year.

The premise of the movie is that love actually does exist. Even in our crazy world. It follows a number of different characters throughout the holiday season to show how love exists. Yep, love takes on all forms, from stepfather to stepson, singer to manager, sex between strangers (this is the funniest one!) and of course new love between a couple. My favorite scene in this whole movie is at the end in the airport. It really hits home the importance of having your loved ones around you.

I just watched the movie tonight. I was excited to watch it this year. But, unfortunately it just made me feel really sad at the end. It has been so hard not having my son home with me over this holiday weekend. It is hard not having home at any time, especially when he is in a place that neither of us want him to be. But, this was especially hard. No kid should be locked up during Thanksgiving - especially a kid who has so many family members ready to shower him with love. So, at the end of the movie, in the airport, it really struck home that he was across town from me and I won't get to see him again until Wednesday. And, hopefully he will be coming for good then.

So, while I love the movie Love Actually, this year it was just bittersweet watching it. It did give me a few good laughs and killed another 2 hours in which Caleb was locked up. So, for that I am thankful. Sorry this ended up being a melancholy post - it sure didn't start off that way. Hopefully we will all have good news soon!
