Did anyone else watch the season finale of Survivor last Sunday night? I have watched every season of that show since it first aired and it is one of my all time favorite reality shows. I think I like it most because it provides us with a glimpse of what people’s reactions are when they are placed in less than ideal situations with none of their comforts surrounding them. This is also why I like to watch Big Brother, although that show allows them to be a lot more comfortable than Survivor!
This season’s finale was a great example of why it doesn’t always pay to be conniving or vindictive when interacting with humans. I’m so happy that it ended up that Russell did not win as it made me a lot more comfortable with the way that the human race associates with people like him. He chose not to follow the social norms, which isn’t a bad thing at all. The problem is that he turned on people very quickly when they stood up to him. Especially in reference to women. While it was ok for him to have different views, he couldn’t accept that others might also have a different impression of a scenario. We work so hard to teach youth that they should consider all sides of a problem before reacting. So, it was positive that he wasn’t rewarded for his actions.
